CARGO CLAIMS
The firm handles and defends cargo claims brought by shippers, consignees, and insurers involving both domestic and international shipping. Our experience includes claims for cargo damage, loss, theft, spoilage, shortage, misdelivery, and non-delivery, across containerized, refrigerated, bulk, steel, and liquid cargoes.
MARITIME CONTRACTS & ADVISORY
We advise clients on drafting and negotiating maritime contracts, including charter parties, service agreements, bills of lading, and related indemnity provisions. We also provide guidance on regulatory compliance, including U.S. and international transportation regulations and tariffs, and the United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (“OFAC”) requirements.
CHARTER PARTY DISPUTES & ARBITRATIONS
The firm advises clients on charter party disputes involving time, voyage, and bareboat charters. We provide practical guidance on rights, obligations, and potential outcomes, and have extensive experience representing clients in maritime arbitrations through final award and judgment.
MARITIME PERSONAL INJURY & WRONGFUL DEATH
The firm defends maritime personal injury and wrongful death claims under the Jones Act, the Death on the High Seas Act, and the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act. We represent vessel owners and operators in claims brought by maritime workers and have successfully handled cases through trial and appeal.

KIRK M. LYONS
Kirk Lyons has a longstanding practice in maritime and admiralty law, focusing on cargo claims, charter party disputes and arbitration, hull and machinery matters, and maritime personal injury and wrongful death claims. Prior to founding Lyons Law Firm in 2025, he was a founding partner of a leading New York maritime law firm.
Kirk represents blue- and brown-water vessel owners and operators, as well as domestic and international marine insurers, including P&I Clubs. His practice is informed by both deep legal experience and firsthand maritime industry knowledge, having previously sailed as a deck officer aboard commercial vessels.
